Ida Lewis Yacht Club: Lexi Plock + Rob Spets Wedding

Lexi and Rob have been partners in crime for years, traveling the world for their yacht life profession and passion. Looking to finally make it “official,” Lexi and Rob choose Ida Lewis Yacht Club to host their intimate wedding ceremony and cocktail reception. The Ida Lewis Yacht Club is a located on Lime Rock in the heart of Newport Harbor, providing couples and private club members 360-degrees of water views from its haborfront locale.

Groom’s sister Ashley, masterfully arranged cherry blooms as the backdrop for the nuptials, and sourced gorgeous florals, she herself designed from Greenlion Design.

The blustery and raining day, opened up for moments long enough to get outside and quickly shoot between hugging, drinking and celebrating with their closest family and friends. This seafaring couple demonstrated their love can weather any storm.

The Towers: Cortney Blackburn + Joe Czekner Wedding

Courtney Blackburn and Joe Czekner choose a Narragansett historic structure as the backdrop for their early May wedding.  Located at 35 Ocean Road in Narragansett, Rhode Island, ‘The Towers’ has served as a prized location for weddings, receptions, engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions for more than a century - Designed and built originally as the Narragansett Pier Casino by famed McKim, Mead, and White between 1883–1886.

Courtney + Joe utilized this historic landmark for both their ceremony and reception. The ceremony was held on the patio overlooking the garden, while the Great Hall and its sweeping ocean views provided the perfect locale for the intimate wedding reception.

As a non-tradition couple, Courtney dawned a pale pink dress, groomsman wore a mix of greens and blues, and the adorable duo said ‘I DO’ alongside their good friend who had been ordained as '“The Dude,” a-la “The Big Lebowski.”

I was honored to be a part of such a beautiful day filled love and laughter.   Just goes to show, you don’t have to have a sky filled with rainbows and sunshine to enjoy such an epic day.

Seaside Maternity Shoot

It’s funny how quickly time goes by during second and third pregnancies. Most moms-to-be are focused on taking care of first children, working, and ultimately too preoccupied embodying their inner “Wonder Woman.” Such is the case of A+J, a lovely Newport, RI couple pregnant with their second which was lovingly dubbed “Bobo” by their first babe. Shy of their due date by a few weeks - A+J contacted me for a family maternity shoot. We headed out to the beach on a super chilly, blustery day to capture a few shots of their baby to be.

A Twilight Engagement: Scott + Sara

Sarah McClutchy and Scott Buchanan are a perfect match. As longstanding friends (since high school) I joked they were high school sweet hearts. Both lovers of the outdoors…Scott is an environmental scientist and herpetologist, it was a natural choice to shoot outside. Though they had hoped for snow, the adorable couple braved frigid temps during this December twilight engagement shoot at Sachuest Point in Middletown, RI.

With a few clothing options in tow, Sarah and Scot were able to quickly switch their ensembles to accommodate the weather and vary the look and feel of their photos, from cozy to a bit more formal.

Love along the seashore

I was honored to shoot Middletown native Armond Lavalle and his fiancé Michelle Ann Post at Second Beach for their engagement. The sporty couple mixed things up starting off with a beautiful “beachy” look in the sand dunes and ended with rash guards and surf boards in the water. It was an epic evening with a gorgeous sunsets and full moon rising to boot.

The future Lavalle’s are getting hitched Summer 2019 in Narragansett, Rhode Island…on the beach of course!

Romance at Newport Vineyards

Born and raised on Aquidneck Island, Rhode Island - Jacqueline Dufault and her fiancé, fellow Long Islander Jared Schumer met me at Newport Vineyards for an engagement shoot. Inspired by their Tuscan engagement, the adorable and cheeky couple wanted to incorporate the romantic and dreamy feel of their recent Italian vacation into their shoot.

The future Schumers are thrilled to be chosen as Newport Bride’s 2019 couple of the year. Over the coming months they will be sharing all aspects of our personal wedding planning process with the general public - From the good, the creative, the stressful, ugly and the lovely. Follow along on their wedding journey HERE.

Up for anything she said...

Over the summer I launched an inquiry via my Instagram page hoping to capture some images in and out of the water. I was thrilled when mutual acquaintance and talented macrame artist Michelle Lavallee was “up for anything.” With summer at its peak, we headed over to Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth, Rhode Island for some creative fun. Michelle was a trooper in and out of the water during this whimsical and transcendent shoot.

Itsy Bitsy Imsy - A bold swimwear line

I had the pleasure to shoot with an amazing gal the other day that I had never met.  I have to say Caroline Synnott made my job an easy one!!  Not only did she power through wind, waves, and sand - she made it look effortless in her adorable IMSY bikini.  Self proclaimed to "bridge the gap between fashion and function," my super active model dawned two different style IMSY suits.  Each offered signature prints, are totally reversible, and are handcrafted for an amazing fit.

Designed by a local Rhode Islander, Katie Imswiler, IMSY swimwear and accessories embody a free-spirited and confident vibe, any adventurous lady would love to wear.

Swartz Family - Glen Park

The Swartz Family of five are a fun and playful bunch!  With a clear picture in mind, mom Emily really wanted to have a farm-like setting to shoot in.  Just short of cows roaming in the background - I think we nailed it.

Although Newport, Rhode Island is known for it’s amazing sunsets on the water, we made a late afternoon trek to Glen Park in Portsmouth to enjoy the new green grass of summer and countryside feel of its bucolic surroundings.

Newborn Shoot - Baby Lucas

Nina and Nate Longley welcomed sweet baby Lucas into their life just a few weeks ago.  Shot at home - This sweet newborn shoot captured Lucas, his mother and father alongside his newest cousin born just a few weeks prior.  If you plan to hire a professional photographer or choose to take photos of your own, here a few tips to keep in mind:

First, plan to feed your baby right before you try to photograph him/her so he’ll be more likely to fall asleep. Sleeping babes, have such a peaceful look, whether bundled up or posed nude - with their little arms and legs exposed.  Secondly, have backups of everything - outfits, blankets, diapers, food, etc!   You never know who these little guys!!  Thirdly, have fun and take your time.  Expect to take breaks in-between poses to feed, lull your babe or comfort them when needed.  The point is ti create a soothing and loving environment for everyone to enjoy their special moments together.

Wicked Tulips

If you haven't been to Wicked Tulips yet this spring - Try to buy your tickets ASAP!  This gorgeous tulip farm located in Johnston, Rhode Island features over 600,000 early, mid, and late blooming tulips spread over 5 acres.  My sister and I returned to our Dutch roots and frolicked among the tulips for an afternoon.   After we completed our haul - we headed over to nearby Crepes Corner for delicious authentic Belgian Crepes & Waffles.

Spring has Sprung

With rising temperatures and blooming buds, it finally feels like spring has sprung here in the Northeast!  Newport, Rhode Island offers an array of outdoor activities and festivals around town that visitors and locals can take advantage of.  Most notable, Daffodil Days highlights the hundreds of thousands daffodils planted yearly by volunteer green thumbs.  Photo shoots can be arranged most anywhere now that hedges are in bloom, and foliage starts to show promise for warmer days ahead.

Use a color story to create fresh, colorful photos to brighten up an empty wall in your home.

Baby Tyler - Newborn Shoot

Christine and Kevin graciously welcomed me to their home to shoot their newest addition baby Tyler.  I tried to take a more casual approach to this newborn shoot.  There was a little posing involved, but my intention was to capture more natural images of the baby, their home, and their eldest son John.  These sessions can be done up to 6 weeks old and usually last 1-2 hours max.  My favorite thing about lifestyle newborn photography is capturing the wonder and amazement between the family members.

Newborns are incredible but so is the love in the air. Memories of this time-frame often become fuzzy for new and seasoned parents.  This is precisely why I feel these types of shoots are so important.

Shot over a brisk but balmy February morning, the babes of Bohemian Bias channeled their inner "she-woman" and slayed this super fun photo shoot.  Make sure to follow Bohemian Bias on Instagram to stay up to date on the shop's local happenings.

Ryan Lee Crosby at Sachuest Point

American guitarist, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Boston, Massachusetts, Ryan Lee Crosby is a versatile, exploratory musician with a restless drive to create.  Crosby's unique sound is a fusion of American blues and world music influences, which he performs on 12 and 22 string guitars.  Crosby was looking for a few images to accompany his new album and website  - so we headed outdoors on a super foggy day!  The inclement weather created an allure similar to Crosby's unassuming, folky swagger.  Most of the shots were captured at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge as well as inside my home.
